1. Why did you pick this image? What caught your eye?
I chose this image because I recognized Paul McCartney's face and I realized it was The Beatles. I enjoy the Beatles's music so I chose to look at their picture.

2. Summarize what you read. How about 2-3 sentences explaining the photo.
The photographer, Harry Benson, took this photo of The Beatles, John, Paul, Ringo, and George, after they found out that their song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" hit No.1 in America and began celebrating. Benson originally did not want to photograph The Beatles because he thought it was unimportant but he later felt happy that he was assigned the task.

I learned that the pillow fight started when John first hit Paul in the head while he was drinking whisky and the other boys joined in.

1. Why did you pick this image? What caught your eye?
What caught my eye is that the subjects in this photo are practically skeletons. You can see bones and it's hard to understand how they were still alive in this photo.

James Nachtwey wanted to document the spiraling famine in Somalia but couldn't get an assignment, he knew people were starving on the other side of the World. Eventually, he got support from The International Committee of the Red Cross and he was able to take photos in Somalia. He brought back haunting photos which eventually helped get Somalia help from American peoples who saw the photo. 1.5 million Somalians were saved due to donations.

I learned that the photos were basically the sole purpose that Somalia eventually got help from Americans. The photos were published in Time magazine and $250,000 in donations poured in, and the support from The Red Cross was an operation as large as its aid had been in World War II.

This image caught my eye because you can see a silhouette of a person in the fire. Then when you look closer you can see that it is real.

The photo shows a Buddhist Monk, Thich Quang Duc, immolating himself on a Saigon street.The Monks did this in order to protest the treatment of Buddhists by the regime of President Ngo Dinh Diem. Quang Duc's action became a sign of the violation of his nation.

The Monk who was set ablaze was seated at the middle of an intersection and chose to be set on fire, he died as an act of protest.

What caught my eye was the ski mask. It looks as though something bad is happening.


2. Summarize what you read. How about 2-3 sentences explaining the photo.
On September 5, 1972, eight members of the Palestinian terrorist group Black September raided the Munich Olympic Village building housing ­Israeli Olympians. The terrorists killed two team members, took nine hostage and demanded the release of 234 of their jailed compatriots. 900 million people got to watch the 21-hour hostage standoff live.

The terrorist attack was motivated by the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. This terrorist attack took place in Germany 36 years after Hitler's Olympics.

1. Why did you pick this image? What caught your eye?
I chose this image because of the body language, I can see despair and anxiety. 


2. Summarize what you read. How about 2-3 sentences explaining the photo.
South African students in Soweto tried to do a peaceful protest to not learn in Afrikaans language, instead in English, but skirmishes by the police broke out. Eventually, the police began firing bullets at the students, the photo shows a lifeless boy being carried away from the gunfire, and his sister running along side his dead body. The issue was caused due to the unfairness of the Apartheid.

About 10,000 students in Soweto protested the Afrikaans language and felt as though English should be the national language, many places in Soweto were then set on fire. The man who is seen carrying the dead 13 year old boy, disappeared after this picture was published, because he was being hunted by the police, no one knows where he is to this day.
